Getting married at the ENEA Tree Museum

Getting married in a tree museum, in a venue that at first glance looks like it’s in the middle of the south, but is here in beautiful Switzerland? That means getting married at the ENEA Tree Museum with a 75’000m2 park near Zurich’s Obersee in Rapperswil-Jona. In a venue with uniquely large and beautiful rooms, lots of nature, breathtaking landscape architecture and lots of love for design.

The rooms can all be rented exclusively for your big day. However, as with everything in life, there are two sides to it. As beautiful as the venue is and as many bridal couples fall in love with this dream venue straight away, the organization is time-consuming as the venue is unattended and unfurnished. This means that on the day itself there is no one on site as a direct contact person, no furniture can be used and no one on site takes care of the technology and the set-up and dismantling during the event.

A wedding that is best organized with the support of a professional wedding planner and looked after on site. In this blog post, we would like to show you a little about what should be considered in such beautiful, but also very large and complex venues in order to enjoy a relaxed wedding day without feeling responsible for everything and being able to hand it over with confidence.

Remodeling and change of venue

As the ENEA Tree Museum offers the option of renting the orangery and/or the showroom separately, you have a wide range of options for your wedding. In the end, however, it is often desirable to rent both parts in order to be able to move within the venue on the day itself and to be covered for bad weather. This also gives you the opportunity to benefit from the beauty of the venue.

For example, you can enjoy a free wedding ceremony in the orangery, followed by a lovely aperitif in the outdoor area and then dinner in the showroom. However, you have to be aware that everything has to be planned well in advance and it has to be decided what will be set up where and in what weather conditions. If you only book one of the two options – which we have also had the pleasure of planning – you will need a large team on site to convert everything from the wedding venue to the banquet venue on the day itself during the aperitif. As I said, everything is possible, but should be considered and planned professionally.

The assembly of the furniture usually starts very early in the day, as the suppliers have to deliver to various events and weddings and you may still have a major assembly ahead of you. It is best to have a team of helpers on site when the furniture is delivered, who know exactly where the tables, chairs, lounges and any other furniture are to be set up. Some furniture suppliers only deliver the furniture and you have to assemble it yourself.

Setting up a long table, as at this dream wedding with over 130 guests, can take some time. In addition to the tables and chairs – which have to be precisely aligned – there are also rented table linen, which has to be ironed, various cutlery, glasses, napkins, name tags, lots of candles and tea lights as well as the flowers from the florist. So don’t underestimate the amount of time it takes to set everything up, which certainly shouldn’t be taken on by the best man or groomsman, let alone the bride and groom themselves on the wedding day. A professional team is also needed so that someone can react to spontaneous, unpredictable situations, which actually always happen, and the end result looks stunning and corresponds exactly to the bride and groom’s expectations.

As far as our team was concerned, four of us were present at this wedding for the set-up. Three of us were responsible for the large set-up of the long banquet table, while one person was in the orangery to take care of the set-up, the coordination of the catering and the wedding area with the florist. With such extensive locations, it is important to have enough helping hands. We also had the opportunity to use our headsets, which made communication within the team much easier. As we had to cover large distances, we were able to reach each other at any time at the touch of a button.

As a team, we are also happy to greet the guests. There is nothing better for guests than having someone there for them when they arrive and making them feel welcome. If they have to search for the wedding venue for ages, perhaps under stress, and don’t know where they can park, where the checkroom or bathroom facilities are, this makes many guests unnecessarily nervous.

Having a contact person on site is always extremely helpful and is greatly appreciated by guests. Especially at such large venues, it’s easy to lose your orientation. With such a large number of guests, a guest list made it easier for us to know for sure whether all the important guests were really there so that we could start the ceremony. After all, who doesn’t know that one or two people are always late and it would be a shame if it was a very important person for the bride and groom.

Weather conditions

We live in Switzerland and here the weather really always does what it wants. The weather forecast says it’s going to be a beautiful day, the wedding ceremony might be set up outside and the banquet area too. If everything suddenly falls through and you have to spontaneously rebuild and reschedule in an unattended venue, it will be difficult without support. So be very aware of the situation in your own personal venue.

With all this little information, we would just like to recommend that if you decide on a large venue or to get married at the ENEA Tree Museum, then always remember to have a good team at your side to support you in advance and especially on the day itself, so that you can enjoy and celebrate your celebration to the maximum.
