Many bridal couples consider celebrating a wedding in Tuscany, on the beach in Mallorca or in a beautiful orangery in Italy. But what exactly do the bridal couples want? With many it is not even the country in which they want to marry that is decisive, but it is the certain flair, the nature, which the bridal couples are looking for their weddings.
Jessica’s diploma thesis on weddings as a business model in Swiss tourism also looked at this very topic. The goal of the thesis was to examine tourism regions in Switzerland and to show how they can increase their attractiveness for Swiss brides and grooms by focusing more on the topic of weddings.
Many of the Swiss bridal couples do not know that they can find in Switzerland in the various tourist regions partly exactly this Mediterranean wedding in Switzerland, as they know them from abroad. Of course, excluded from this is a wedding by the sea and beach, this is now unfortunately really not possible in Switzerland. Or maybe it is?
For this reason, Jessica took a closer look at the different tourism regions during her thesis to see how the regions can improve the attractiveness for Swiss bridal couples and their wedding.
Through various research, interviews and surveys, Jessica has analyzed what tourism regions in Switzerland need to offer to become more attractive to Swiss brides and grooms:
- Marketing via social media needs to be strengthened enormously, because the largest part of Swiss bridal couples inform themselves via social media when preparing for their wedding. This also includes the search for the right venue. Only those who actively market themselves will get the attention of the bridal couples, as this is how they come across the tourist region and find out more about it.
- A visibly good offer is needed on the website of each tourist region, where they present the individual wedding venues with their capacities. Thus, the bride and groom do not lose much time in the search for the perfect wedding venue and have directly a good overview of the respective tourist region.
- There needs to be a direct contact person in the tourism region for the topic of weddings. This is not only attractive for the bride and groom, but also for the tourism region itself, since someone can focus on this target group and knows best about the offers in the tourism region.
Jessica’s evaluation has shown that many tourism regions currently still have strong potential for improvement and should take the previously listed tips to heart. A very good example of active marketing of the tourism region to bridal couples is currently provided by the tourism region of Ticino. These are strongly active in the wedding industry and market themselves very well to the outside world. More and more marketing promotions are being placed on social networks and detailed information on weddings in the region can be found on the website of the tourism region.
