Once again this year we had the pleasure of organising a real Swiss Wedding – a beautiful wedding for our American bride and groom. Requirements: Swiss mountains, lake and a stunning view. We have this to offer at several locations in Switzerland, yet it is not easy to find the perfect location for the respective number of guests. We were finally able to celebrate Carrie and Kevin’s wedding in beautiful Grindelwald. But a mountain wedding also has its difficulties. We would like to tell you what you have to be aware of and how you can incorporate Swiss tradition into your wedding in our blog.
Transport
In the mountains, there is hardly ever a lift, not always a cable car and rarely a suitable cable car, which can be used for the guests, but also for transporting the material. Longer distances have to be covered on foot, especially if you want to go to nice remote places. Therefore, it is certainly important to clarify exactly whether the guests are sufficiently well on foot and how the material will get from A to B. In any case, it helps to have a guide. It definitely helps to have a reliable partner who knows what material can be transported and how. And please always remember to inform your guests about suitable footwear.
Weather
Hikers and mountaineers are aware that the weather can change within seconds and minutes in the Swiss mountains. Often the sun is shining and a few minutes later it starts to rain or a thunderstorm comes up. It is therefore important to always have a bad weather option ready. Our wedding was originally planned to take place directly at the lake, but promptly the weather did not reliably cooperate. However, we were able to hold the ceremony on a beautiful terrace of a nearby restaurant.
“(…) Even though we couldn’t use our original ceremony location due to the weather, the backup location that they suggested and arranged on the day of actually turned out to be even better.”
Swissness
Since our bridal couple wanted to have a real Swiss Wedding, we integrated small elements that are typical for Switzerland. Already the journey was an experience for the guests from America – on the one hand they enjoyed the excellent public transport infrastructure and on the other hand of course the gondola ride to the wedding location and the later return trip by cable car was a real experience.
Seasonal and regional meat and cheese platters were then offered for the aperitif. For the musical accompaniment at the wedding ceremony, the couple chose the traditional alphorn, which made the atmosphere all the more homely. In the evening, the guests then enjoyed a traditional meal in the heart of Grindelwald. In addition, the guests were given a key ring in the shape of small cowbells as a guest gift. As Switzerland is also known for its embroidery, the napkins were embroidered with the names of the guests as name tags for the banquet. So there are all sorts of ways to incorporate the benefits and traditions of Switzerland into a Swiss Wedding.
“Had our dream destination wedding thanks to Liebesding! They executed our vision perfectly and we couldn’t have done it without them. Stefanie, Simone, and Stefania were all so sweet, professional, and highly experienced. They helped with everything from research, location scouting, communication between vendors, and day of coordination. (…) The whole day was even more perfect than we had imagined because they had thought of every last detail and made the entire experience stress-free for us. Thank you Liebesding team for everything!”
We are always happy to hear from couples who would like to celebrate their wedding in beautiful Switzerland. Mountain weddings and destination weddings are not always easy to realise and should be planned well in advance. Correspondence with the couple and the service providers is even more important in such planning. The expectations of the couple should also be adapted to the situation here from the beginning and a realistic picture should be shown. Only in this way can wonderful weddings for guests from all over the world take place in the beautiful Swiss mountains.
We would be happy to advise you on the realisation of your mountain wedding.
