Liebesding in person – career and preferences

The world of wedding planning is characterized by love, creativity and a special eye for detail. For many couples, the wedding is the most important day of their lives and they want everything to be perfect. But what is really behind the magic of a wedding? Who are the creative minds working behind the scenes to make this special day unforgettable? In this blog post, we take a look at the careers of Liebesding’s employees and reveal what we love most about our job.

The path to becoming a wedding planner: career and qualifications

The profession of wedding planner requires a unique blend of skills ranging from organizational talent to creativity and interpersonal skills. Many people who choose this profession have a passion for event planning and love details – in the planning as well as the design. But how did the employees of Liebesding become wedding planners? One thing can already be revealed: they couldn’t be more different.

Simone

At my employer – a communications agency in Zurich – I developed a passion for events. During this time, many of my friends and acquaintances got married. Thanks to my years of experience in the event sector, I was always asked by them: “You know so many great locations” / “Do you have a contact for a musician” or “What do you have to calculate in terms of costs for a photographer”? Since I always knew that I wanted to become self-employed one day, and actually only studied business administration for that reason, I started thinking more and more about what services I would like to offer in the future. During this time, I also realized that wedding planning was definitely one of them. So I looked into where I could do an apprenticeship to learn the profession and ended up training as a qualified wedding planner. During my training, I founded my own agency and was immediately able to pursue my great passion and accompany around 100 bridal couples on their big day. We now have a larger team that is extremely committed to the profession, which has made my dream even bigger, makes me very proud and motivates me every day to develop and live out my profession.

After my three-year banking apprenticeship at the Cantonalbank and a subsequent three-year stint at the front desk in the customer zone – during which I also trained apprentices – I decided to start a three-year full-time degree in tourism in Zurich in summer 2020. In the second year of my studies, I had an internship year on the agenda, which ultimately led me to two great internships. During the first semester, I completed an internship at Liebesding, where I was able to gain my first insights into the world of wedding planning. This experience confirmed my long-standing passion for planning weddings, which had already begun in my childhood. Inspired by movies in which wedding planners played the leading role. The highlight of my education and experience as a budding wedding planner was undoubtedly my second six-month internship in Maui, Hawaii.

After the internship year, I started my final year of university and was lucky enough to be able to work part-time at Liebesding alongside my studies.

Since I’ve been working as a wedding planner, I’ve been asked time and again: “But what is your profession?”. I always have to smile a little and try to clear things up: I trained as a primary school teacher and worked in this profession for 12 years. BUT I also learned the profession of “wedding planner” and completed an apprenticeship.

How it came about: It’s a typical girl cliché, but it’s really true – weddings have always fascinated me! No show “Traumhochzeit” was broadcast without little Steffi in her own wedding dress and with a ring on her finger in front of the TV. Later on, I always enjoyed organizing smaller events. I often saw and marveled the shop Liebesding while strolling through Zug’s old town. While researching my own wedding, I came across the wedding planner training course at engaged and immediately contacted “Frau Glarner”, full of anticipation but also a little nervous. Shortly after the application deadline, Simone accepted me into the training program and, after successfully completing it, into her team. Now I’ve been working at Liebesding since 2020 and can pursue my passion for weddings professionally.

During my training as a primary school teacher, I realized that I wanted to do something else in addition to my passion for working with children. Weddings have always fascinated me, and thanks to my Portuguese heritage, which is characterized by a large family, I have already been able to experience many emotional and beautiful wedding celebrations. One day, while scrolling through Instagram, I came across an ad for training as a wedding planner. I was surprised that it was even possible to learn this profession in Switzerland and was immediately enthusiastic about the idea. Shortly afterwards, I decided to sign up.

The training at engaged – wedding planning was extremely instructive and varied. I particularly appreciated the intensive contact with experienced wedding planners from the industry, including Simone. It was a stroke of luck that I had the opportunity to get to know Simone through this course. Today I am grateful to have the chance to work at Liebesding and to be able to live out my passion for wedding planning part-time.

What do we like most about being a wedding planner?

As wedding planners, we immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of weddings and have the privilege of being part of one of the most beautiful days in a couple’s life. But what drives us as wedding planners and what makes this profession so special for us?

Simone

What makes our profession very unique and special is the mixture of positive emotions and a meticulously planned day. For me, wedding planning is the ultimate event discipline. No other event requires as much sensitivity and precision as weddings. The moment just before the ceremony starts or a very special speech is about to take place is unique. All the emotions bundled into expectations that are then fulfilled is the best and greatest appreciation for me. That’s why I do this job.

What I appreciate as a wedding planner is that I get to meet lots of new people – be it the bridal couples, guests or service providers. Every bridal couple is different, has different backgrounds / cultures, which is why I can also be creative and get to know new things.

The support from the initial consultation to the wedding day are the most beautiful moments for me, because you are part of the whole process and can see the end result afterwards. And in the end, the greatest thing is of course the appreciation of the bridal couples. The work that has been done is so appreciated by the bridal couples and that is wonderful.

Creating new visual worlds for our bridal couples and clients fills my heart with joy.

The profession of wedding planner is very varied. Working with different bridal couples is very exciting and always challenging. Responding to the different needs and wishes and creating the most beautiful day for each bridal couple is a new challenge every time, which motivates me a lot.

The different tasks – meetings in the office, meetings and visits at locations, creative work on the PC or by hand, the often physically demanding wedding days, etc. – suit me very well.

The icing on the cake are the wedding days themselves. You work long and hard for these days and with the bridal couples. Marveling at the couples in their beautiful dresses on their big day, witnessing the joyful tension before the wedding ceremony, seeing the increasingly relaxed atmosphere and joy at the aperitif, dinner and party and being able to say at the end of the day: “Wow, it all worked out and was wonderful” and hearing this from the bride and groom is simply wonderful every time and makes me go home with a feeling of elation after every long wedding day.

Valeria

As wedding planners, we have the opportunity to bring our creative ideas to life and develop unique wedding concepts that are perfectly tailored to each couple’s personality and style. The highlight of my job as a wedding planner is the magical moment when the bride and groom say “I do” and we can see all our hard work come to fruition. There is no better feeling than knowing that we have helped to make the most important day of a couple’s life unforgettable.
