The topic of diversity has been on everyone’s mind for a few years now – including in the wedding industry. By now, it should definitely be normal that all people, regardless of age, gender, origin, religion or sexual orientation, are welcome everywhere. The more you mention and emphasize this, the more “abnormal” you make it. And yet we would like to explicitly mention the topic of diversity in the wedding industry again here.
The wedding day is often referred to as “the most beautiful day of your life”. This is precisely why it is so important that every couple can express their individual identity at their wedding. All too often, we still hear bridal couples say things like “that’s just what’s expected”, “that’s not what we do”, “if we do it like that, we’re letting someone down”. It definitely shouldn’t be like that! At the wedding, every bride, every groom, every person should be able to be who they want to be and realize their own dreams without having to take any (outdated) social conventions or requirements into consideration.
It may also be necessary to throw traditions overboard and not allow yourself to be forced into a corset by norms and social demands. Couples often take the path of least resistance and allow themselves to be treated to standard packages. But we say to you: be brave, realize your dreams and ideas. It doesn’t have to be the traditional wedding suit or a seated dinner with four courses. The couple photos don’t have to take place in a romantic flower park and, in our opinion, you can do without countless group photos and classic posed couple photos. Decoration concepts can be bold and weddings can generally take place in unusual venues.
So what is the current state of diversity in the wedding industry in Switzerland? Basically, it can be said that diversity is celebrated and encouraged. Many service providers are happy to welcome unusual couples and concepts and are very happy to help realize individual wishes and unusual ideas. The wedding service providers themselves are also becoming increasingly diverse. Couples have the opportunity to choose service providers who understand and respect their individual preferences and needs and are happy to implement them.
You can meet a great selection of such service providers at the upcoming beloved – Wedding Festival on February 10 + 11, 2024 in the Papiersaal & Folium in Sihlcity. Be inspired by the wide range of service providers, offers and live acts at the festival. Immerse yourself in a unique world of experience and dive into the wedding industry in a different way. You can find more information about the festival here.
Finally, the question remains as to whether the wedding industry in Switzerland should promote the topic of diversity even more? Or does artificially emphasizing what is now the most normal thing in the world not make it seem rather abnormal? From our point of view, there is no need to mention that all people are welcome everywhere. Nevertheless, “other” couples should be shown even more in magazines, on social media, etc. Just because it is not explicitly mentioned does not mean that all people are not welcome. On the contrary! It means that it goes without saying!
