Summer wedding – tips and tricks

Perfectly prepared: Summer wedding in Switzerland in hot temperatures. A summer wedding in Switzerland promises fantastic weather, sunny scenery and an unforgettable atmosphere. But high temperatures also bring challenges. Here are the most important points you should keep in mind to best prepare yourselves and your guests for the heat.

  1. detailed information for the guests

Especially for an outdoor wedding ceremony, guests should know what to expect in advance. Mention specifically in the invitation that the ceremony is taking place outdoors and that sun cream, sun hats or even a small parasol might be useful. A light fan will also help to keep you cool. If the ceremony takes place in a church, it is often comfortably cool, so no special arrangements are necessary.

  1. provide enough drinking facilities

Enough water is the key on a hot summer’s day. As wedding planners, we always make sure that there are enough water bottles available for the guests and that additional fans are distributed. A charming idea is also a small self-service station with refreshing drinks such as lemon water or iced tea.

  1. flowers and heat – a sensitive topic

Flowers are an essential part of any wedding, but they are sensitive to heat. To prevent them from fading early, keep them in the shade or in a cool place for as long as possible. Make sure that bouquets and arrangements are not placed in the sun too soon. Florists can recommend more heat-resistant flowers. When we are on site as wedding planners, we make sure that the flowers are placed on the tables in the evening sun or shortly before the guests arrive at the table, for example, if the banquet area is outdoors. So that the flowers don’t have to stand in the heat for too long.

  1. be careful with fire and dry surfaces

The risk of fire is increased on especially dry days. Make sure that there are enough ashtrays available for smokers. If sparklers or flying lanterns are planned, water or fire extinguishers should always be within reach. In some regions, there may also be temporary fire bans that must be observed.

  1. spare clothes – not only for guests, but also for service providers

Especially those who work at the wedding – photographers, musicians, wedding planners or service staff – often sweat a lot on such days. A fresh set of clothes helps them to feel comfortable even after a few hours. It can also be helpful for guests to have at least a light top or a fresh shirt to wear.

  1. further tips for a pleasant summer wedding

  • Choose light clothing: Breathable fabrics such as linen or cotton will help you not to overheat.

  • Organize sun protection: Pavilions or parasols offer protection for guests and service providers.

  • Use the cooler times: If possible, schedule the ceremony later in the afternoon when temperatures are a little more comfortable. A late evening sun can also be very romantic for a free wedding ceremony. And you still have enough time to celebrate well into the night.

  • Refreshing snacks: Watermelon, frozen fruit or light salads are perfect for hot days. We sometimes had ice cream stations where guests could put together their own ice cream sundae. This is always a special highlight for young and old and offers a delicious and refreshing way to cool down on hot days.

  • Fans or mist spraying systems: If technically possible, these provide welcome cooling.

With the right planning, your summer wedding in Switzerland will not only be beautiful, but also enjoyable and refreshing for everyone! Enjoy your big day and make sure your guests feel comfortable.

We will be happy to help you to be perfectly prepared for a summer wedding in Switzerland in hot temperatures. Do you have any further questions or need help with the planning? Then we look forward to getting to know you during an initial free and non-binding consultation.
